Write Authentically
and build a community
This short post will be a mix of my reflections plus lessons learnt/tips for you! Over the course of my 3 months here on Substack, the thing that has kept me motivated, is that my words are actually reaching the eyes of enthusiastic readers and learners.
Let me begin by sharing a few notes from my subscribers that has stuck a smile on my face till date and kept me writing!
It feels so great to get active feedback that my writing is inspiring you!
A few tips to keep in mind for the newbies as you begin your writing journey, as the right mindset is critical:
Stop making it about the subscriber count! My subscriber count in 3 months has just reached 350. Call that slow, call that fast. It doesn’t mean your writing is bad. It takes time to get noticed!
Engage with others writers. This can be directly through their posts, or messaging them seperately saying how much you enjoy their work! Feedback when made genuinely makes a real difference in forming a web of trust.
Do not compare yourself to other writers. How they got to where they are is not important to know for your growth. Focus on your work, building your community, and radiating your own light!
Write authentically. I can tell you when I write, I tune out the world around me briefly, and my eyes are glued to the screen. If your writing doesn’t make you feel like that, you need to change your niche.
I have linked a few phrases above to my own posts where I mention in a little more detail about it. Write for you and create your legacy.
If you take your work seriously, then even after you pass, you can have your words stick and make a difference in future generations’ lives! At least, that’s my goal!

This was such a nice read, Sanjana. I think the same goes for any kind of content creation we may be doing, it should never be about the numbers but rather producing the content authentically. Thanks for sharing!
Great reminders.
